PPMIS is governed by a Board of Directors elected by its shareholders.

Aubrey Maze, M.D. | Chairman of the Board

Dr. Maze is a practicing anesthesiologist in the Phoenix, Arizona area. He is a founding member and the Chief Executive Officer of Valley Anesthesiology Consultants, Ltd. since 1979. He is the Past President of the Medical Staff of Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Past President of the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia. He was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Stanford University from 1976-1979. He has served as Secretary of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research. At present, he serves as a member of the Surgical and Anesthesia Committee and as a member of the CVT Section at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He also served on the Anesthesia Committee at Good Samaritan Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix and was Chairman of the O.R. Committee at both institutions. At present, he is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona. He has been an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1980. Dr. Maze currently serves on the Board of the Ear Foundation in Phoenix. Dr. Maze is Chairman of PPMIS and a Director since 1996.

Joseph P. Annis, M.D.

Dr. Annis is an anesthesiologist living in Austin, Texas and teaching anesthesiology part-time at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. Dr. Annis currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the St. David’s Healthcare Partnership in Austin. He has served as President of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of St. David’s Medical Center and is Past President of Medical Staff at St. David’s Hospital. He is currently a member of the AMA Board of Trustees. Dr. Annis has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.

Donn A. Chambers, M.D.

Dr. Chambers is a practicing anesthesiologist in the Atlanta, Georgia area. He is the Past President of Physician Specialists in Anesthesia, P.C. and a past Senior Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Chambers has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.

Thomas A. DeBacco

Mr. DeBacco is a co-founder and serves as President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of iModules, Inc. This Overland Park Kansas firm delivers leading edge SAAS (software as a service) to member based organizations. Mr. DeBacco also co-founded Visual Components, a successful software company that focused on providing development tools to other software developers. After the company was purchased by Sybase, Inc., in early 1996, he became President and Chief Operating Officer of the wholly owned subsidiary. Mr. DeBacco led a team of investors in re-acquiring Visual Components from Sybase in mid-1998. Serving as Chairman and CEO, Mr. DeBacco repositioned the company as Tidestone Technologies. Mr. DeBacco began his software career in 1981 as a sales and marketing executive for Innovative Software, a startup application software company. By the late 1980’s he had spent time living in London setting up international operations for Innovative Software, Informix Software and Fox Software. Mr. DeBacco was elected to serve as a Director of PPMIS in June 2008.

Thomas L. Enstrom, JD

Mr. Enstrom is an attorney, management consultant, investor, and has owned and operated a retail service business for over 20 years. He was previously the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Centennial Life Insurance Company, Central Benefit Systems, Inc., Tricentennial Life Insurance Company and Centennial Management Services, Inc. Mr. Enstrom has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.

Frank X. Fraas

Mr. Fraas is a partner in Cooperative Healthy Savings of Herndon, Virginia. His organization markets medical discount programs to cooperative organizations throughout North America. Mr. Fraas retired as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange in 2006, following a 45-year career in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry. Mr. Fraas has been a Director of PPMIS since 1996.

Richard A. Kemp, M.D.

Dr. Kemp is an anesthesiologist in Sandwich, Massachusetts. In April of this year, Dr. Kemp retired from the practice of medicine. Dr. Kemp serviced as Medical Director of HealthSouth Hartford Surgical Center for twenty-three years. He was a Clinical Instructor of Medical Students at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and has served as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Kemp is Past President of the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia and a former Surveyor for The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. Dr. Kemp has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.

Thomas W. Laming

Mr. Laming is Senior Vice President with Scout Investment Advisors. Prior to joining Scout Investment Advisors, Mr. Laming served as President and Chief Investment Officer of TrendStar Advisor, LLC, a firm he founded in 2003. Prior to TrendStar Advisors he spent 10 years with Kornitzer Capital Management and Buffalo Mutual Funds as Senior Vice President and Chief Equity Strategist. Mr. Laming was previously a technology analyst with Waddell and Reed, and prior to entering investment management, he was a spacecraft design engineer with Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado, and with TRW in Houston, Texas, and Redondo Beach, California. Mr. Laming holds an MBA from Indiana University, a M.S., in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. with highest distinction in Physics from the University of Kansas. He is also a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Mr. Laming has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.

Edward C. Mills

Mr. Mills retired as the Chief Executive Officer of PPMIS on June 30, 2010.  He served as President of PPMIS from February 1997 until June 2009. Mr. Mills served on the Board of Directors for the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation from 2000 to 2009. He has many years of experience in the insurance industry, having been employed by the Preferred Risk Mutual/Midwest Mutual Group of Des Moines, Iowa; the Northland Insurance Companies, St. Paul, Minnesota; and McM Corporation of Raleigh, North Carolina. He obtained his CPA designation in 1971. Mr. Mills has been a Director of PPMIS since 1996.

Edward S. Ritter

Mr. Ritter was elected Chief Executive Officer of PPMIS effective July 1, 2010.  Mr. Ritter also serves as a director of Generali USA Life Reassurance Company and Genamerica Management Company. From 2005 to 2009 he  served as Assicurazioni Generali, S.p.A.’s U.S. Representative and the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Generali USA Life Reassurance Company. From 2003 to 2004 he provided financial consulting services, primarily to Assicurazioni Generali, S.p.A’s European operations. He was also formerly the Senior Vice President-Corporate Development of Business Men’s Assurance Company of America until 2003 and a Partner with the accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP until 1990. Mr. Ritter has been a Director of PPMIS since 1996.

James H. Sederberg, M.D.

Dr. Sederberg is a practicing anesthesiologist in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Sederberg is currently President of Colorado Anesthesia Consultants, P.C. He also serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado. Dr. Sederberg has served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Secretary of the Medical Staff at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. He also served as an instructor for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah. Dr. Sederberg has been a Director of PPMIS since 2007.

Jay H. Yedlin, M.D.

Dr. Yedlin is currently a practicing anesthesiologist in Overland Park, Kansas at Menorah Medical Center. He has also served as President of the Medical Staff and as a member of the Board of Directors at Menorah Medical Center. In 2003, Dr. Yedlin served as Acting Director of the Anesthesia Department for the Bendigo Health Care Group in Victoria, Australia. He was recently recertified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists as a diplomat. Dr. Yedlin has been a Director of PPMIS since 2006.
